El Agua del Oso is a nonprofit mutual benefit corporation formed with the primary purpose of development of water resources and supply water at actual cost plus necessary expenses for irrigation or domestic use or both to its twelve members - residents of Redwood Meadows Ranch in rural Bonny Doon.
The water system consists of 3 licensed wells within the development, 20,000 gallons of system water storage and underground distribution piping. Each customer is required to provide and maintain local water storage and pressurization equipment meeting Santa Cruz County requirements.
Two wells operate with wired level controls installed at the 20,000 gallon tank farm. The third well is retained for standby operation and can be powered by PG&E or with a locally placed generator. Underground distribution piping is primarily 2-1/2” PVC. Wells are metered for water output and customer tanks are metered for use. Meters are read monthly and checked for unexpected water use.
